My Pet Peeves

First of all, I decided to take down my post from yesterday. I vented it out, which I needed. I got some good feedback from you, thank you. And it's done. So, I don't want it staying out there to cause more drama than it needs to. From now on, it is between me and C, TJ, and his primary leaders. Nuff, said.

Now that that's behind us, I have some more complaining to do. Big surprise, I know. But, after this, I promise to be more upbeat. I mean I AM leaving for Hawaii at the end of this week. Now that's something to celebrate!!

So, here are a few of my recent pet peeves.
1. I'm always claiming that I am the complete opposite of OCD. Well, there is just one thing about me, that might be the tiniest bit OCD. That is the way my groceries are bagged. If they do it wrong, it drives me CRAZY. And I try to make it easy for them. When I'm taking things out of the cart, to put them on the counter to check out, I arrange them by category: produce, frozen, refrigerated, boxes, cans, non-food, etc. You get the idea. And I always leave a space between the different categories so there's no mistaking. And yes, it does irritate me when the worker comes to help me empty my cart, because he's not going to arrange it on the counter the way I like. I find myself rearranging stuff on the counter after he puts it on.

So, yesterday, at the grocery store, I did just that, making it really easy to see how I want my groceries bagged. During the checkout the bagger was placing bags in my cart. He put one bag on top and I noticed he put the vegetables, and the shampoo in the same bag. Wha the huh? So, I simply pulled all of the non-food items out of the bag, and said I didn't want shampoo leaking onto my vegetables, so will you please put them in a different bag. Then, when I was loading them into my car, I noticed that the 5 cans of food I had purchased were put in the same bag as the bread. ARRGGHHH! Who puts cans and bread together? Any idiot knows the bread will get smashed.

So, my pet peeve is people who don't use logic when bagging groceries.

2. Long sleeve shirts. I have man-arms. No, seriously, I'm not joking. I have a long body, and broad shoulders. And it seriously BUGS me that whenever I buy long sleeve shirts they don't go all the way to my wrists. And if I go up in size then the shirt is just baggy, and unflattering. I am of the opinion that if you wear clothes that are too big for you, it makes you look bigger, rather than smaller. I just want my clothes to fit! I also hate short pants, too. I'm always scouring the racks for long fit jeans. They are hard to find. And I'm only 5'7''. I'm pretty average height. If I have a hard time finding pants long enough, how do people taller than me find pants? The world of tall women should revolt, and start a new clothing store of just apparel for tall people. They have a petite section for short people. Why don't they have a tall section?

3. People crossing the street, slowly. As a runner, I am often in category of pedestrian. And when I cross the street, or come to an intersection, I run as fast as I can across. Especially if there is a car waiting for me to cross. It drive me insane when people cross the street, thinking that just because they have the right of way, that the should mosey along, slower than tar. That's just rude. It is common courtesy that when you know someone is waiting for you, even if you are on foot, and they are in a car, to hurry and get out of their way.

Same goes for people walking/driving slow. Move over, and let the person behind you pass. If you want to go slow, that's your prerogative, but don't hold up the line/traffic just for spite. It's rude!

I couldn't resist posting this picture. 100 points if you know who/what this picture is!

4. People who feel the need to discipline my children in front me. That is probably the worst insult you could ever give me. Because in my mind, that is your way of telling me that you don't think I'm doing a good job as a parent, and there is a need for intervention. It undermines my authority, and discredits me in front of my kids.

I'm sure people have good intentions, but it's none of their business.
Strangers DO NOT know what's best for my children more than I do. So back off.

FIRST ---whooppeee!!!!!!!
Dang, I missed yesterdays "vent" post and you took it off already. I agree with ALL your pet peeves --ah except the grocerys one. Now that you brought it up I am sure it will now start to bother me. I too hate it when people mosey across the road --makes ya want to bump them a little with your car (tee, hee) but would probably end up shot!!!
And leave your kids alone!!!!(there, I told em for ya)

also YES I know that photo----If I say, it will give it away to your next commenters. But it was the face of an album (back when there were still albums---I know!!)

Abbey Road? John Paul George and Ringo? (I dated a beatles fanatic.)

SAME THING with the groceries. I put them on the belt grouped the way I want them to be. Fridge stuff, frozen stuff, pantry, boxes, non-food......exactly the same thing.

I don't know why there's a tall section. I've tried shopping in the petite section, but it's mostly old lady stuff. Or really short shirts that make you (me) look fat. Regular jeans are too long for me, but short jeans are usually high waters. I just end up wearing boots, or rolling cuffs with tennis shoes.

Um, yeah. I'm almost 6 feet tall, with a 35 inch inseam. The only pants I have ever worn that are long enough cost $100.00. All of my long sleeve shirts become shove-up-to-my-elbow shirts, because they aren't long enough.

Hawaii, France. What kind of lucky ducks are we???

Hawaii! Ah, lucky girl! I totally agreed with your pet peeves. Well, except the long sleeve bit. I'm just not tall enough for that to matter.

I love me a venting Sher!

I belong to this etiquette message board, and the disciplining other people's children is talked about a lot. The consensus is that it's only OK if they are going to hurt themselves or someone else.

Try ordering Old Navy's tall sized shirts online. I have way-too-long-for-a-girl arms as well and the tall ones from Old Navy are the best I've found.

Beatles. The White Album.

I would hate to stand behind you in the grocery store. I always get the freakin' checker that has to sort my groceries for me. JUST BAG THEM. I will sort them when I get home!

I think that is the only difference between you and I. I guess there is always a first. :>

Hawaii? Suhweet! I hope you get to go a long time! I totally hear you on the kid disciplining thing--back off! And, I totally relate on the clothes buying experience. I have a hard time finding shirts that go down to my wrist--maybe I have gorilla arms or something. And if I buy regular length jeans, when they get washed, they're too short; and if I buy Tall jeans, they go way past my toes. I wish I were a seamstress! Aloha!

I can so relate to #4!

Ditto to every single syllable. Cans with the bread? Are they hiring SOCIOPATHS at Albertson's now??

And wanna watch me go from Sister Celestial to Miz Satan with no stops to refuel? Discipline my kids when I'm within 100 yards of the event. Hope you're wearing your asbestos underwear, is all I can say.

And Sher, re your most recent comment on my blog: Rightbackatcha, cutie! (And one vote is sufficient, although it warms me through to know you'd vote twice if you could!)

I laughed out loud at your grocery OCD.
And said in a teeny tiny voice, I knew who that was when I first saw it. I am old, what can I say?
You are going to Hawaii?? No fair.

Slow people bug me - meaning slow drivers, slow walkers, slow talkers. So, I totally understand. Melissa gave us a new word for slow drivers yesterday - parade maker. I totally use it all the time now.

I'm with ya, 'cept I'm short. I even put the groceries in categories on the belt. It's amazing how lame baggers can be. I remember when I wa a kid watching the baggers, with one hand in the bag and another tossing the food to it, really fast. It was an art. a dead one, I fear.

One of my kids is named after something relating to this photo.

I am so with on the grocery thing. I do the exact same thing!!

And #4 - I think I would mabye just have to take that person out. No one messes with my kids.

Beatles. Abbey Road. 100 points. Cha-Ching!

The grocery bagging thing drives me nuts.

My shirt sleeves are NEVER NEVER long enough. I am 5'9", but I do not adhere to that thing where your arm span equals your height. My arm span is almost 6 feet. So my arms are freakishly long. They're longer than my husbands arms.

And I also can never find decently priced long enough pants. Which I hate, because I really would like to wear heels with my jeans sometimes. But ha...flats or tennies it is.

Love the Beatles.

What's Hawaii?

I am so with you on these. Except the tall thing. I just can't comment. Don't know. But the parenting thing is the worst. I am a good parent, let me do it. They are my kids BTW!

From one person with freakishly long arms, I totally agree. Seriously, stores cater to everyone except us inbetweeners. I ahve tried some of the tall stuff and the pants are just a wee bit too tall. The shirts always work out great, but the pants just like I said are just a titch to tall. Dilliards has a couple of brands that you can actually buy your jeans like the men do with the waist measurement and then an inseam measurement, but even those don't seem to allow for any sort of bulgy thigh. ARGH! Now I am all worked up. Must be because I need some new jeans... As for the baggers, some people get it and some people don't. The worst is when they stick a frozen item in with canned goods and you are in a hurry and put away just the perishables, and then later on come back to put the rest away and realize that your frozen food is now thawed...

I forgot to mention I am really enjoying your playlist today... Good stuff!

Totally agree with you on number three, I get SO irritated with these people. Seriously, move your butt along people!!!! Teenagers seem to be the worst offenders, at least where I live. Just moseying along like they own the pavement. Anyway. I agree with you on number two too, not that I have that problem, So wish I were 5'7, but tall people should definitely get their own section just like the petites do.

So, I was thinking it was the BeeGee's and Sergeant Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band cover, just cause of the outfit and hair on the first guy.

I totally agree with #4. Seriously, I'm the mom, BACKOFF! This was really fun to read!

You are the first person I know besides myself who organizes the food for bagging purposes. Baggers and cashiers usually annoy me. Especially when they put one item in a bag. What a HUGE waste! I hate that and often take it out and put it in with another bag of stuff. I also often re-bag things in the parking lot before going home and then leave extra bags in the cart.

Love your list. My list of pet peeves is long but distinguished.

You are not on it.
